After a successful pilot program in Ricciardi Park, Ambler Borough Council is expected later this month to enact a new ordinance allowing dogs in the park.
According to the March 19 council meeting, the new pilot program was received positively and proved that dogs could safely and responsibly be brought to the park.
The ordinance, if approved April 16, will remove language prohibiting “pet animals” and replace it with the following:
“Leashed dogs are permitted in Ricciardi and Ambler Borough Parks (dogs in Ambler Borough Park already authorized pursuant to ordinance 1091), although not within one hundred feet of installed playground equipment. Otherwise, pet animals, including but not limited to dogs, cats and horses, are not permitted in Borough parks.”
Last October, the Public Safety Committee introduced a six-month trial program to the park, which will end April 15.
