A driver was rescued Monday night after their vehicle went airborne off the westbound turnpike onramp in Upper Dublin Township.
Crews were initially dispatched to the acceleration ramp to 276 west at the Fort Washinton Interchange at 10:41 p.m. for a report of an accident with injuries. The dispatch was upgraded to a low angle rescue a short time later, with radio traffic indicating the vehicle went airborne, traveled approximately 100 feet through the air, then crashed down a 40-foot embankment.
It is unclear if there was more than one person in the vehicle, however radio traffic indicated the driver was out of the vehicle and subsequently rescued from the embankment by first responders. The driver was transported from the scene via ambulance with unknown injuries, and their vehicle was towed from the scene due to sustaining disabling damage.
The ramp was temporarily closed while crews worked the scene, which cleared just after 11:30 p.m.
Responding units included Pennsylvania State Police, Upper Dublin Police, Harmonville and Fort Washington fire companies, Ambler Ambulance, and other area agencies.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
