The Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC) invites the public to submit nominations for the 2024 Montgomery Awards Program by May 20. The Commission is looking for projects and individuals/organizations that represent the best in site design, environmental stewardship, and planning advocacy in Montgomery County.

This prestigious annual program recognizes the best in planning, design, and environmental sustainability and promotes awareness of outstanding building design and innovative site planning in communities within the county. It acknowledges the high quality of work and commitment of communities, organizations, individuals, and professionals in contributing to these excellent projects.

MCPC is in search of exceptional projects including residential, office, commercial, and institutional developments that exemplify good site design, such as building placement, project context, parking and circulation, pedestrian amenities, landscaping, and sustainable design practices. The project categories include land development, revitalization, open space, transportation, environmental, and community impact—a category added in 2022 to recognize the successful efforts by nonprofit organizations or private and public entities and partnerships that contribute to the well-being and diversity of a community. Projects could include community gardens, affordable housing, and public spaces.

The county is also looking for nominations of an individual or organization that has made significant and sustained contributions to advancing or promoting planning in Montgomery County for consideration of a Planning Advocate Award.

The Montgomery County Conservation District partners with MCPC to offer an Environmental Stewardship Award as part of the Montgomery Awards Program. The district is seeking a project, completed in the past three years, that exemplifies the practices of environmental stewardship and conservation for water and soil quality.

Winning projects are selected by a committee consisting of members from the Montgomery County Planning Commission Board, and award recipients are honored at an awards presentation. The Environmental Stewardship Award is selected by the Montgomery County Conservation District.

Information on the program, past award winners, eligibility and nomination requirements, and online entry forms are available at www.montcopa.org/MontgomeryAwards.
