A former staffer from Sunrise Senior Living on Penllyn-Blue Bell Pike is facing charges after she allegedly used credit cards from two residents to steal money and make various purchases.

Iyannah Slocum, 22, of Philadelphia, has been charged with felony counts of identity theft and access device fraud, along with a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property, following an investigation by the Whitpain Township Police Department. She is currently free on $7,500 unsecured bail, court records show.

Police allege between April 18, 2023 and Dec. 1, 2023, Slocum took photos of credit and debit cards belonging to two residents, then used the information to make Cash App transfers as well as pay for Uber rides and DoorDash food deliveries. She also allegedly stole cash from one resident, and made $600 worth of ATM withdrawals using the other resident's card, according to the criminal complaint.

Officials said they identified Slocum as the suspect based on her work schedule and the times and locations of the Uber rides, as well as DoorDash deliveries that were sent to the facility while Slocum was working. In an interview with police in March, Slocum allegedly confessed to stealing and using the card information, as well as making the ATM withdrawals, however she denied stealing cash from the victim or any other resident.

In total, Slocum allegedly stole $1,095.17 via the authorized transactions and ATM withdrawals, police said.

Court records show Slocum was arraigned last month, and her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on May 14 at 11 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard.

In the time since the investigation began, Sunrise Senior Living changed ownership and became Morningside House of Blue Bell. When reached for comment, Morningside COO Jennifer Larkin said they were made aware of the situation, and an internal investigation was conducted parallel to the police investigation.

Larkin added that once Slocum confessed to police, the general manager of the community immediately terminated her employment.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
