Heavy rains on Friday and Saturday may have played a part in an accident at 12:46 a.m. Saturday, as emergency crews were called out to assist at a vehicle accident. One vehicle came to rest in the shoulder of the eastbound Turnpike, while another was in the far-left passing lane, closest to the median.

Accounts from those watching first-hand said that around three people were seen, outside of the vehicles, walking around the cars. A third car was unable to stop in time, striking the vehicle that was at-rest in the far-left, passing lane, causing a second impact and accident. The incident was captured live on the Turnpike’s traffic cameras.

Fire units blocked traffic lanes until emergency medical crews could attend to the injured parties. The Turnpike was limited to one lane of eastbound traffic, as the accident was assessed and cleared. Two persons were confirmed as being transported from the scene to local hospitals. Their condition was not yet released.

Fort Washington Fire Company, Upper Moreland (Willow Grove) Fire Department, the Community Ambulance Association of Ambler, and the Whitemarsh Community Ambulance Association all responded to the scene.

Pennsylvania State Police had not yet responded to media inquiries as of the time of publication, and no report was yet made available.
