  • Things To Do

If you are seeking some entertainment or simply some fun things to do, check out This Week Now, which offers events from Aug. 12 to 18, and mark your own calendars. Here are some of the exciting happenings in and around the Wissahickon School District and surrounding areas:

For the family’s younger members, the Ambler Arboretum will host “Storytime for Little Listeners” on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Temple University Ambler Campus. All are welcome to come hear a fun story and complete a related, nature-based activity. Registration is available online here. Those interested should follow the gravel pathways that lead up to the Bright Memorial Pavilion, where the group will meet. The event is held rain or shine, but guests should dress for the weather. Extreme downpours or thunderstorms will, however, cancel the day’s event. Parking is located in Lot 1, directly across from Meetinghouse Road.

Prepare to unwind from your busy week with an evening on the terrace at Karamoor Estate Vineyard and Winery. The terrace is open on Fridays from 2 to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays 1 to 6 p.m. Reservations are not required, and walk-ins are welcome. Guests must be 21 or over. The Winery requests that toddlers and pets remain at home. For more information, call 215-643-5800. The Karamoor Estate Vineyard and Winery is located at 6118 Butler Pike in Blue Bell.

The Lab, in Ambler, is hosting an Improv Workshop: Anybody Can Do Improv at its storefront location at 85 E. Butler Ave. on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 3 to 5 p.m.  The brief “give-it-a-try” and “dip-your-toe-in” workshop is designed to help you become comfortable easing into the tools and challenges of creating theater in the moment. Described as “perfect for absolute beginners or for those with experience who want to revisit the basics in new ways,” the course is instructed by Matt Holmes. The cost is $45. Interested guests can register online here.

The Shikkaricon: Anime and Gaming Convention will be held at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Philadelphia West, located at 640 Fountain Road, Plymouth Meeting on Aug. 17 and 18. Panels, vendors, games, and tournaments will abound from 9 a.m. on Saturday morning through 6 p.m. on Sunday. All ages are welcome, though those age 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Hotel room blocks have been reserved for those interested in spending the night! For more information, visit the convention’s website here.

On Sunday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. the Upper Dublin Summer Evening Concert Series will continue with the music of the “Three and One Band.” Known for playing “a little bit of everything,” this group will play at Temple, Ambler Campus, at 580 Meetinghouse Road in Ambler. This event, as all in the “Celebrate Summer in UDT” events are, is free of charge and for all ages. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on or they may stand on the lawn. For more information, visit the WissNow article here.
