A Bucks County man has pleaded guilty for driving under the influence of drugs when he caused a multi-vehicle accident in Lower Gwynedd Township that killed another man in February 2023.
The accident, which occurred on Route 309, claimed the life of Brailyn German Reinoso. Daniel Joseph Selby, 33, of Fountainville, admitted he was guilty for the charges of homicide by a vehicle while driving under the influence of controlled substances, DUI, recklessly endangering another person, and driving under suspension.
According to a report by Carl Hessler Jr. originally published in The Pottstown Mercury, the sentencing for Selby is deferred to October, as court officials requested time to conduct a more in-depth investigation of Selby.
Selby, who was operating a car with a suspended license, was alleged to have fentanyl and cocaine in his systems at the time of the crash, according to the report. Selby remains in county jail without bail to await his sentencing, which may include a maximum of seven to 14 years for his crimes.
Per the Hessler article, the initial accident was reported around 11:07 p.m. on Feb. 10 as Pennsylvania State Police responded to a crash in the southbound lanes of Route 309, where a Dodge Ram, operated by Selby, had struck the rear end of a Honda sedan.
Reinoso, the driver of the sedan, who was extricated from the Honda, was treated for life-threatening injuries but died several days later. Both vials of white residue and hypodermic needles were seen in Selby’s truck at the scene, per police reports. Selby’s blood later tested positive for fentanyl and cocaine, said police.
As previously reported by North Penn Now, criminal complaints pertaining to the accident noted that Selby had a “runny nose” and complained of being too hot, despite the cold weather and only wearing jeans, a jacket, and winter cap.
Selby had refused to consent to a blood draw, telling police “it may not be good for him,” however police soon obtained a search warrant and were able to test his blood.
Selby had previously made headlines in 2017 when his escape from Bucks County police custody, forcing area schools to go on lockdown as police searched the Warrington area for Selby. Authorities later arrested Selby’s father, Daniel Selby Sr., for allegedly helping his son escape.
