Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) is thrilled to announce the installation of a second Dolby Atmos Mixing Suite, a significant addition to its renowned Mix Room of the Sound Recording and Music Technology (SRT) program.

Located in the Advanced Technology Center of the Blue Bell Campus, this new mixing suite underscores MCCC’s commitment to provide cutting-edge educational opportunities in sound technology and music production. Starting Sept. 24, the College will be offering 10-week continuing education classes for Dolby Atmos Mixing.

“The Dolby Atmos Mixing class will complement academic and community offerings like the Master Class series available through Sound Recording and Music Technology programming at the College,” said Kelly Strunk, Temporary Dean of Business and Professional Studies. “It is innovative, unique and will equip students and community members with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the evolving field of sound technology.”

Under the direction of David Ivory, Director of Sound Recording and Music Technology, a GRAMMY-nominated, multi-platinum engineer and producer, the new Dolby Atmos Suite will be a welcome addition to the Mix Room’s Atmos Mixing.

The Mix Room at Montco’s Blue Bell Campus is a state-of-the-art sound recording studio with professional recording technology, including both vintage analog and high-end digital sound recording equipment.

“Having a second room,” said Ivory, “will allow us to easily teach both students and mixing professionals and offer the chance to learn the latest advancements in audio mixing technology since stereo.”

Dolby Atmos, known for its revolutionary approach to mixing sound, creates an immersive audio experience, enhancing the way music and sound are produced and enjoyed. This suite will not only bolster MCCC’s SRT curriculum but also elevate the standards of sound education and professional training in the region.

Key features and benefits of the new mixing suite include:

Advanced Training: The new suite will support continuing education courses designed to education students and professionals about Dolby Atmos technology, allowing them to stay at the forefront of the industry.

Professional Development: Mixing professionals will have access to the suite, providing them with the opportunity to learn and adapt to the most exciting development in audio mixing since the invention of stereo.

Enhanced Learning Experience: Students in the SRT program will benefit from hands-on experience with top-tier audio equipment and software, preparing them for successful careers in the music and entertainment industries.

Interested students can register now for the 10-week continuing education classes for Dolby Atmos Mixing. Classes are scheduled to begin Sept. 24, meeting Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. Ivory and Nate Leslie, audio engineer and technician, will co-teach the course. Additional courses and professional training sessions are expected to begin during the spring semester. MCCC invites students, educators and industry professionals to explore the new possibilities this suite will offer.

Through the SRT program, students gain a comprehensive background in sound recording, music production and music technology comparable to the first two years at a conservatory. After graduating with this practical, real-world experience, MCCC students can find entry-level work in the recording industry, or transfer to a four-year institution to continue their studies.

In addition to the Blue Bell Campus program offerings, MCCC also offers SRT classes at its Pottstown Campus.
