Pennsylvania Senator Maria Collett, who represents portions of Montgomery County, Pa., announced more than $2 million in Multimodal Transportation Fund grants to restore aging infrastructure and improve traffic safety in her district. Among them, Whitpain Township will be provided with assistance at a well-used traffic light.

“Investing in Pennsylvania roads makes our communities safer, more walkable, and better connected – all while boosting our economy,” Senator Collett said. “I was proud to help secure this funding, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside municipalities and leaders across all levels of government to ensure vital infrastructure projects like these are prioritized.”

More than $51 million from the Multimodal Transportation Fund have been awarded to support 66 projects across 32 different counties in Pennsylvania.

Grant recipients in the local area included Whitpain Township, which will receive a $1,463,300 grant for the installation of a traffic signal at Skippack Pike (Route 73) and School Road and other intersection improvements of that area.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides financial assistance to municipalities, councils of government, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, and ports and rail freight entities to improve transportation assets that enhance communities, pedestrian safety, and transit revitalization.

PennDOT will begin accepting applications for the next round of funding on Sept. 23, 2024 at 8 a.m.
