Many empty seats remained as last school year came to a close in Wissahickon. Human resources had a busy hiring season which is just now beginning to wind down.

Danielle Hey, director of human resources, provided a presentation of the new staff for the upcoming new school year during the Monday night meeting of the Wissahickon School District Board of Directors.

“I am very excited to introduce the new staff for the 2024-25 school year,” said Hey. “We have been working very hard on hiring since March. That is six months if anybody doesn’t want to do the math.”

Hey said that the district started with a first post for a position in February of 2024, with “demo lessons” leading up to Aug. 19, the date of the School Board’s public meeting, “just to fill some more spots.”

“A big shout-out to Dr. Dawan [assistant superintendent], our directors and principals, for the hours and hours they have spent reviewing resumes and in interviews,” said Hey. “And of course our Human Resources team for getting all of these wonderful folks entered and on-boarded for tomorrow.”

Staff in-service dates started on Tuesday, Aug. 20, with students’ first day slated for Monday, Aug. 26.

“This year, we filled 94 vacancies,” said Hey. “And we’re hiring a total of 75 new staff. Yeah, it’s a lot.”

Hey presented a video of the new staff that has come onboard since last school year, sharing it with the school directors on Monday night. The video is shared here below, courtesy of the district’s YouTube channel.

“That was great,” said Board President Amy Ginsburg. “I love seeing all the new teachers and staff.”
