Gwynedd Mercy University has partnered with other colleges to create supporting environments to rehome refugees. Starting in the spring of 2024, working in collaboration with Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island, the local college will benefit from a recent Innovation Incentive Grant from SHERR, designed to “stimulate ideas in refugee resettlement.”
According to a post on Salve Today, the college is working alongside Carlow University, Misericordia University in Pennsylvania, and Salve Regina University to find solutions.
“In keeping with Salve Regina University’s commitment to living out its mission in tangible ways, the university is extending its focus on supporting refugee resettlement,” said the post.
The schools have come together with a very specific goal.
“Together we aim to build and strengthen relationships with our local resettlement agencies, growing refugee resettlement capacity in our communities and state,” said Dr. Mary Montminy-Danna, chair of the department of social work at Salve. “By focusing on the mercy critical concerns, we’re all working toward a world that is more harmonious, just, and merciful.”
