Multiple area municipalities will benefit from the study the grant is funding about trail intersections.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) recently announced fall Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants. The funds are designed to assist in “circuit trails, local trails, parks, and safety improvement projects.”
Locally, one such grant will help the community to better understand the uses of an Upper Dublin Township-based section of trail. Known as the Green Ribbon Trail, the grant funding, which was rewarded to Upper Dublin Township directly, needs improvements. The $35,000 granted by the DCNR will go toward a “trail study” for a review of trail access points and intersection improvements.
Green Ribbon Trail encompasses 12.6 miles through multiple municipalities. It is considered a “moderate” skill level trail, with multiple scenic viewpoints along its pathway.
While the funds won’t cover the actual required work, it will review the possible needs of six unique trail intersections, which fall far beyond Upper Dublin Township alone. The cross-sections are also in Lower Gwynedd Township, Whitemarsh Township, and Whitpain Township, all in Montgomery County, Pa.
Instead, the work the DCNR grant funding will include an electronic written report. The township’s leadership will take the study’s recommendations into consideration when deciding which best steps it can take to improve local trails.
Whitemarsh Township was granted its own $60,000 which is earmarked to update the Comprehensive Recreation Park, open space, and a Greenways and Trails plan within the township. Work will include an electronic written report on the best use of the improvement projects and funds.
