You’ve just turned 10 years old, Dance Time Dance Academy! What are you going to do?
“I’m going to Disney World!”
At least, that is the hope of one local dance studio who aims to compete this summer in the Happiest Place on Earth. To help them meet this massive goal by July, the dancers are seeking the public’s help. And they’ll even make you laugh in the process.
The dance studio is hosting a Comedy Night on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Puck Live in Doylestown. This Great Barn Brewery music venue will be masquerading as comedy club for one night only, as Joe Conklin and his special guests appear for a night of laughs.
David A. Fitzgerald, an Ambler resident and self-proclaimed “Dance Dad,” is looking forward to the event, which will help to benefit his 12-year-old daughter who dances with Dance Time.
“What Disney does is they compete, then are allowed in parks, and perform in the Disney parade,” said Fitzgerald.
This amazing opportunity to dance in Disney, however, comes with a hefty price tag. The families of the academy’s dancers hope to make the cost more affordable for the team’s families.
“The trip was supposed to happen a couple of years ago, but then COVID happened,” said Fitzgerald. Now that the academy is celebrating its tenth year in business, the trip to Disney seemed like the perfect chance to enjoy and look back on a decade of success.
The Comedy Night tickets are $75 per person. The doors open on Jan. 4 at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7 p.m. Guests are invited to come early and grab some food and drinks ahead of the show.
Puck Live is located at 1 Printer’s Alley, in Doylestown. Tickets for the Jan. 4 Comedy Night event are sold online here.
In addition to a night of laughter, the academy will also have raffle baskets and a 50/50 for participation throughout the night.
According to Fitzgerald, the team has competed in many areas, including past events in Baltimore, Boston, and New Jersey. In addition to travel costs, such as transportation, hotels, and food, the dancers will also be juggling the cost of costumes.
“Depending on how many competitive teams a dancer is in, there’s solos, duos, and trios, and groups; and depend on how many they’re in, you have to buy one for each of those,” said Fitzgerald. His daughter alone, for example, is in 12 different ensembles, meaning 12 different outfits!
