A person was pinned under a car, and another ejected, as two vehicles crashed on early Sunday morning just before 1 a.m. on the 1100 block of Penllyn-Blue Bell Pike in Whitpain Township.
As reported by Wissahickon Now that day, at least one person involved was transferred to Abington Memorial Hospital for life-threatening injuries. Police said that the accident involved two vehicles, a BMW 528 and a McLaren GT.
While the incident remains under investigation, Lt. Brian Sweisfurth of the Whitpain Township Police Department did say that two required ambulance transportation for injuries. One was a 33-year-old male, from Lower Gwynedd Township, and another was a 39-year-old man from Philadelphia.
The road did remain close for several hours following the accident, as police investigated. The accident was considered “cleared” around 3 a.m. according to the lieutenant.
Responding to the scene were Lower Gwynedd Police, Whitpain Police, and Plymouth Police, as well as the Centre Square Fire Company, Second Alarmers Rescue Squad, and Plymouth Community Ambulance Association.
The matter remains under investigation, and it is not yet known if any charges will be filed in the matter. Witnesses said that police remained at the scene as late as 10 a.m. that morning.
“Only the front of the car was left, from what I could see,” said one witness to the accident’s aftermath. “I haven’t stopped thinking about it all day.”
