It started when Michael Leon Nixon, 64, of Philadelphia clutched a bag of fentanyl, as he walked into the Citizens Bank branch inside the Giant Food Store on DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell, Whitpain Township to cash a counterfeit check on Aug. 5, 2022.
On Friday, it ended in Montgomery County Common Pleas court with Nixon pleading guilty to possession with intent to deliver heroin and fentanyl and forgery, according to The Mercury.
Nixon is free on bail and faces up to five years in prison, per the report.
Before being sentenced for drug trafficking, Nixon was first ordered by Common Pleas Judge Thomas M. DelRicci to undergo drug, alcohol and mental health evaluations, per the report.
Whitpain Township Police responded to the supermarket branch at 11:52 a.m., finding Nixon passing a counterfeit $1,850 check issued by a Delaware business.
The account was previously closed for fraudulent activity by the Delaware business, who advised the bank that the check was indeed fraudulent.
Police seized a bag with a white substance from Nixon, as well as numerous other bags of heroin inside his pants pockets, police said.
