Just weeks after his graduation from Wissahickon High School, Domenic Dugas tragically lost his life on Monday, July 1. At just 17, this young man was planning on leaving for the Air Force at the summer’s end. Sadly, he passed away in a car accident.
"Domenic's presence will be deeply missed within our school community, and we grieve alongside all who knew and loved him," said a message from Wissahickon School District to families of students.
“No one is ever prepared to bury a child,” said GoFundMe organizer, Denise Sabia. “The financial burden of a memorial service is unimaginable during this difficult time.”
Sabia set up a site to collect donations for the family online. Sabia, of Ambler, said Dugas was an organ donor, and hoped “his gift will go to save many lives.”
Funds are needed to both assist in the cost of medical bills, but also the transportation of Dugas’ body from New Jersey back to Pennsylvania.
“His family appreciates all the love and support that has been shown to them,” said Sabia.
WHS counselors and school psychologists will be available to speak with any students that may need support in processing this tragedy on Tuesday, July 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the high school's main entrance.
A celebration of Dom’s life is planned for Thursday, July 11 at 10 a.m. at the Wissahickon High School Auditorium, located at 521 Houston Road, Ambler. The public is invited to attend and remember Domenic.
