Township seeks part-time employees to monitor public spaces

  • Upper Dublin

Even with a “Premier Agency” status since 2020, the Upper Dublin Township Police Department has to stay on its toes to protect and serve the 27,000 residents of the community. Since they can’t be everywhere at once, the department relies on dedicated members of the public to sometimes lend a helping hand.

Sitewatch is designed to fit that bill. These part-time employees of Upper Dublin Township keep an eye on public spaces, educational facilities, and parks throughout the township. For $18 per hour, you too could not possibly become one of these helping hands.

“Upper Dublin Township is currently seeking several qualified individuals for its Sitewatch program,” said a post to the township’s website. “Sitewatch staff members patrol Township parks and School District properties.”

Having an outgoing personality could help a potential candidate.

“This position is ideal for someone seeking part-time employment that enjoys interacting with the general public, driving, and being outdoors,” said the job post. “The Sitewatch program is a partnership between the Township, School District, and youth sports organizations.”

This is not a law enforcement position. However, the members of Sitewatch can be a helpful eye and ear out in the community for the UDPD.

According to the township, the position typically works four to 12 hours per week from March 1 to November 30, during weekday evenings and weekends. Shift opportunities vary in time from morning (begins at 9 a.m.), afternoons and evenings (ends by 9 p.m.). Shifts are two to four hours at a time, depending on the time of year.

Sitewatch staff members report directly to the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director.

According to the township’s job listing, regular tasks will include:

  • Driving a Township vehicle 20 to 40 miles per shift
  • Patrolling Upper Dublin Township and Upper Dublin School District properties to ensure safety and adherence to rules
  • Providing uniform enforcement of rules
  • Recognizing potentially hazardous conditions of sites and equipment; reporting conditions and/or taking immediate corrective actions
  • Assisting facility users in an emergency situation by making proper calls or notifications
  • Removing debris or refuse as needed

Candidates for this position must:

  • Be available to regularly work the schedule as described
  • Possess sound decision-making skills
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills with a variety of individuals
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license

The successful candidate must:

  • Exercise good judgment
  • Be able to follow written and oral directions
  • Demonstrate a positive and enthusiastic attitude as well as be mature and poised

Starting pay is $18.00 per hour for hours worked. As an added benefit, part-time employees are entitled to eight hours of paid time off (PTO) for every 500 hours worked.

Prior to employment, a candidate will be subject to a PA Criminal Background Check, a PA Child Abuse Clearance, an FBI Fingerprint Check, and PA driver license check.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and completed township employment application to Cheryl Milnazik or by email to employment@upperdublin.net. Candidates will be interviewed as applications are received.

Employment applications are also available in-person at the Township receptionist’s desk during normal working hours or on the Upper Dublin Township website at https://www.upperdublin.net/Home/Components/JobPosts/Job/28/.
