As part of the county’s Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) for 2024, the Montgomery County’s Senior Adult Activities Centers (Montco SAAC) will soon have safer walkways. The Art Center at Ambler, located at 45 Forest Ave., will be one of three beneficiaries of the Public Facility Improvements Project.

In addition to the art center, the Cheltenham Township-based La Mott Community Center and Indian Creek Foundation’s residential home in Souderton will also benefit from the block grant program.

The Montco SAAC will be focusing its funding on “the repaving and greening of Ambler.”

“The project will address the need for repairs to the parking lot and sidewalks, which will address safety hazards and prevent further damage,” said Kayleigh M. Silver, MSS, administrator for the county. According to the county’s fiscal report, block grants for this cycle include projects from Oct. 1, 2023 through Sept. 30, 2024. “Additionally, the project will address the need for repairs to cement stairs and ramps, making the site more accessible and safer for all who use it.”

In total, $445,000 is dedicated to the Public Facility Improvements Project. Nearly half of the funds, or around $200,000, is for the La Mott Community Center, in order for the space to be opened year-round.

The Montco SAAC isn’t the only Ambler-based beneficiary. Another planned project funded by the block grants is to be dedicated to the “Homeless Support and Prevention” project. Family Promise Montco, located at 31 S. Spring Garden St., in Ambler, will be part of a block grant aimed at supporting an estimated 16 families or 40 individuals.

The funds are designated to be used as “Emergency Homeless Shelter Case Management,” with a total of $45,000 reserved for the organization’s needs. Family Promise Montco was formerly known by the name “Inter-Faith Housing Alliance.”
