Collins Nursery, a space dedicated to native plants of the mid-Atlantic region, is soon reopening on the Temple Ambler campus. A grand opening celebration is set for Friday, Sept. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Moving from its former Glenside location on Roslyn Avenue, the new space will be on the campus, 580 Meetinghouse Road, Ambler, adjacent to Parking Lot #3. The nursery is named for nationally recognized landscape architect John Collins, who was the founding chairman of Temple’s four-year landscape architecture and horticulture programs.
“The Collins Nursery at the Ambler Arboretum is a homecoming, preserving Collin’s legacy at the campus where he made such an impact in so many students’ lives,” said a statement on the college’s website.
The Collins Nursery will offer familiar native plants for sale, but staff also hopes to expand the current available palette of native plants in the region. They hope to be able to include lesser-known species to add diversity and interest of the new “home landscape.”
The event on Sept. 20 will be the grand opening for the Collins Nursery of the Ambler Arboretum. It will be held at the new nursery’s site off of Meetinghouse Road.
“Plants will be for sale during the grand opening, in addition to some special programs and speakers marking this important occasion,” said Temple’s webpage.
