With 3.5 billion fans throughout the globe, soccer (or football if you aren’t playing in the United States) is by far the most popular sport in the world. And the enthusiasm for this active sport is no different in Whitpain Township.
The Whitpain Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting two youth soccer day camps this summer for those interested. The U.S. Sports Institute (USSI), which provides sports camps around the country, will be on hand at Wentz Run Park on Aug. 5 to 9 from 9 a.m. to noon for those ages 5 to 11.
“We enable each camper to grow in an atmosphere that promotes integrity, self-esteem, positive values, and good sportsmanship,” said the USSI website. “We are dedicated to delivering quality programs, where children will not only have great fun but also learn that character really counts.”
Total Soccer Experience will host a camp at Wentz Run Park on Aug. 19 to 23 for those ages 3 to 14. This camp has two options, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 9 a.m. to noon.
“Our C.O.R.E. method was established to give players fundamental technical ability and allowing them to progress through mastery of technique,” said the camp’s main website.
All ability levels are welcome to attend any of the camps, even if the child is just starting out in the sport.
“Experience the excitement of the world’s most popular sport at this highly appraised soccer camp,” said the Whitpain Parks and Rec site. “Children will thrive in the exciting, fun atmosphere by our internationally qualified coaches and love the daily themes and soccer challenges.”
According to the Whitpain Parks and Rec, the day camp players will receive soccer instruction at a level that will both challenge them and “ensure they have a fantastic experience at camp.”
“Our professional, qualified coaches will cover different topics and themes each day, including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and more,” said the parks and rec site.
The camps run Monday through Friday each week. They will take place at the multipurpose field at Wentz Run Park. Cost is $205 for residents and $215 for nonresidents. Only 20 seats are available. To register for the camps, visit the parks and rec site here.
