A man employed by a Whitpain Township ATM machine installer and servicer has been sentenced to 11 ½ months to 23 months in Montgomery County jail for stealing more than $1.1 million from more than 45 machines in three Pennsylvania counties, all of which he has to pay back.

Nicholas Jordan Anderson, 24, of the 3200 block of West Willard Street, Philadelphia, a former employee of Diebold Nixdorf, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of theft by unlawful taking, according to The Pottstown Mercury, and also received four years probation from Common Pleas Judge Wendy G. Rothstein.

Rothstein ordered Anderson to pay back $1,132,545 in restitution for the crimes he committed between Oct. 14, 2021 and Aug. 6, 2022 while working as an ATM machine servicer at locations in Montgomery, Delaware and Philadelphia counties, per the report.

Charges of receiving stolen property were dismissed.

Anderson is also banned from all Diebold Nixdorf locations. Diebold Nixdorf, per the report, is a financial and technology company that installs and services automated teller machines.

He was represented by attorney Leon Dominic Goodman.

According to the article, Whitpain Township Police were contacted in August 2022 by the Diebold Nixdorf’s fraud department, after they were alerted to 47 ATM locations in the three counties with “frequent and significant shortages.”

Anderson, police said, was the only company technician who was at all of the locations when the machines came up short on cash. At a company meeting, officials took away his company vehicle.

Once company officials had Anderson’s car back, they found $12,050 cash in $50 denominations wrapped in rubber bands and a Glock 23 handgun, police said.
