Ambler Savings Bank proudly announces its donation of $45,000 to Methacton’s Arcola Intermediate School.
Ambler Savings Bank announced its donation of $45,000 to Methacton’s Arcola Intermediate School helped fund the acquisition of a state-of-the art plasma cutter and planetarium upgrades, enhancing the school’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education capabilities.
The plasma cutter will provide students with hands-on experience in metalworking and fabrication, empowering them to explore concepts in engineering and design, according to a press release. All eighth-grade students participate in a two-month program where they collaborate on fabricating a metal bridge. Their goal is to set a new record for the maximum weight the bridge can support.
Also, an overhaul of the Mallon Planetarium was recently completed and serves as a dynamic learning environment, immersing students in astronomy and space science, the press release stated. Since the 1970s, the planetarium has been used district-wide as well as by community groups. Some of the funds from Ambler Savings Bank contributed to the $1.3 million dollar renovation that updated the infrastructure, technology, seating and HVAC system.
“The plasma cutter and planetarium will significantly enrich our curriculum, enabling students to engage in hands-on learning and explore the wonders of science and technology,” said Michael Bourdeau, Arcola Intermediate School Principal.
Funding for the program was raised in collaboration by the Methacton Education Foundation along with local business sponsors like Ambler Savings Bank.
