Upper Dublin Police have filed charges against a Glenside man who is accused of cashing a fraudulent check at the Wells Fargo bank on Limekiln Pike in November 2023.

Janil Brown, 32, is charged with felon counts of forgery, access device fraud, and identity theft, along with misdemeanor counts of theft by deception, receiving stolen property, securing execution documents by deception, and possession of an altered or counterfeit access device. He is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Police allege Brown entered the bank during the morning of Nov. 15, 2023 and cashed a forged check in the amount of $1,220. Investigators made contact with the victims, who said the check was initially made out to Philadelphia Gas Works in the amount of $29.70, and they did not know Brown and hadn’t given him permission to cash any of their checks, according to charging documents.

Brown was identified as the suspect as he provided his driver’s license during the transaction, which was also captured on interior surveillance, police said.

Charges were filed against Brown on May 13. He was taken into custody on June 1 and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Jodi Griffis, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on July 26 at 10:30 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Douglas Lavenberg.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
