Name the mood for food and, likely, Chewy’s has it.

The eye-catching orange and silver gourmet food truck, with Kelly green rims and a lot of stickers, is a Philly region favorite.

While the food truck will keep rolling and entertaining crowds, Chewy’s wants its clientele to park it this time.

Chewy’s announced via Facebook last weekend that it is opening a restaurant mid-April at the old Rich’s Other Place diner location at 924 N. Bethlehem Pike in Lower Gwynedd Township. Plus, the old beloved décor from the former restaurant was preserved, including the nostalgic booths (now green and orange), tables, and original floor. There is an orange six-seat countertop too, with natural sunlight from the adjacent window.

By the summer, patrons will be able to sit down and enjoy favorites like hickory smoked brisket sandwiches, shrimp tacos, chicken and waffles, or honey-hot fried chicken. Chewy’s also caters to the breakfast fans – egg sandwiches like the South Philly with caramelized onions and mushrooms and Whiz, or the Kimchi with seasoned spicy cabbage, cheddar cheese and sesame oil.

Gourmet burgers? Chewy’s grills them too. A dozen, in fact.

Its burger fare is not something you would find at Uncle Al’s backyard BBQ; did Uncle Al cook foie gras burgers, with poached pear, onion, arugula, and red wine reduction? Or how about the Ranger burger, with pickled jalapeno apple fennel slaw, and Kansas City BBQ sauce?

Owner Charlie Sokowski, a Fishtown resident who opened the food truck in 2011, pulls inspiration from, according to its website, “his family's cooking, kitchens from his past, and his travels around the country.”

As described above, the passion shows off in the creativity of the burgers and BLTs. For instance, the Toga burger has olive tapenade, tomato, feta cheese, and cucumber yogurt sauce. There is even a Hell burger with grilled pineapple and red onion, chorizo, pepper jack cheese and ghost chili bbq sauce.

Chewy’s BLTs come in four options: Classic, Smoked Salmon, Apple (bacon, lettuce, tomato, cider mayo) and Avocado.
