One person hospitalized in Tuesday night fire in Whitpain

One person was hospitalized late Tuesday night following a fire along the 700 block of Boehms Church Road in Whitpain Township.

Crews were dispatched to the scene at 10:52 p.m. for an initial report of smoke coming from a heater in the basement. The call was upgraded to a working fire after arriving firefighters encountered fire showing from the heater.

Witnesses in the area reported heavy smoke filling the neighborhood, with smoke emanating from multiple areas from the home. Boehms Church Road was closed from School Road to Plymouth Road as crews worked to battle the blaze and place the fire under control.

Radio dispatch indicated that one person was transported in serious condition to an area hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Responding agencies included Centre Square Fire Company, Wissahickon Fire Company, Worcester Fire Company, Norriton Fire Company, North Penn Fire Company, Upper Gwynedd Fire Department, Whitpain Township Police Department, Plymouth Community Ambulance, and Second Alarmers Rescue Squad.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
