A string of similar thefts have prompted the Upper Dublin Township Police Department to turn to social media to remind its residents to be safe. In this case, it has been thefts from area vehicles that pushed police to issue a warning to all.

“Multiple thefts from motor vehicles have occurred recently in Upper Dublin Township and surrounding communities,” said the UDPD Facebook post on Friday evening. “The thefts are mainly taking place during the overnight hours. Video evidence suggests that the suspects were armed with firearms during the thefts.”

Upper Dublin is not the first area municipality to warn its residents of this ongoing issue. Ambler Borough Police sent warning to its residents in mid-September, after thefts involving the removal of “wallets, keys, handbags, and money,” prompted the community to be on a higher alert.

UDPD said that, due to the nature of these crimes, anyone with information or that may witness such thefts, should not interact with the actors, and instead allow the authorities to handle the matter.

“Please remain vigilant and report suspicious persons by calling 911,” said the department’s post. “Should you observe a theft in progress, DO NOT attempt to intervene. Instead, call 911 immediately.”

The local police also reminded area residents that preventing such incidents can sometimes be as easy as keeping vehicles locked and valuables indoors.

“Taking precautions can help to minimize the chance of becoming a victim of theft from your vehicle,” said the post. “Precautions include locking your vehicle when it is unattended, making sure to not leave valuable items inside your vehicle whether it is locked or not, parking in well-lit areas, and installing and maintaining security lighting outside your home.”

If you have already or soon do discover that you’ve been a victim of these crimes, please reach out to the police.

“If you become the victim of a theft or an attempted theft from your vehicle, please report it by calling 911,” said the UDPD social media request. “Stay safe and know that we’ll be there when you need us.”
