A pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run on Friday night has Whitemarsh Police investigating the matter through the week
According to police, emergency first responders were dispatched around 3:20 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 to the area of Stenton Avenue at West Valley Road in Whitemarsh Township. A person that called 911 said they’d heard the accident, but did not see it, stating it sounded as if emergency medical services were required. The caller was on a walking trail above the scene.
Upon arrival, units reportedly discovered a struck pedestrian and a vehicle with severe damages. The vehicle was without its driver.
Whitemarsh Police Chief Christopher Ward said that the matter is still under investigation. He was able to tell Wissahickon Now that there were witnesses to the incident, and that it only involved one vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu.
Ward said that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The name of the deceased has not been released to the public at this time.
WissNow.com did receive confirmation that the vehicle was “undriveable” after the accident, and that the operator fled the scene on foot. No other injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to Ward.
Other media outlets reported that a man was later arrested in Philadelphia because of this matter, but these allegations have not yet been confirmed by police. Ward could only say that the matter was “still under investigation.” It is unknown if or when any charges may be filed.
Responding units to the accident included Whitemarsh Police, Springfield Police, Conshohocken Police, Whitemarsh Community Ambulance Association, Barren Hill Fire Company, and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau.
