Though she was unable to attend the Committee Meeting, a proclamation was made in Ambler Borough, courtesy of Borough Mayor Jeanne Sorg. The declaration, which was read aloud in the public meeting, officially marks Saturday, Nov. 30 as Small Business Saturday within Ambler.

The wording of the proclamation was as follows:

“Whereas Small Business Saturday started in 2010 and has become a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their community,

and

Whereas, historically, projected spending among U.S. consumers who shopped at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday, has reached an estimated $17.9 billion, according to the 2023 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insight Survey,

and

Whereas, according to the United States Small Business Administration, there are currently 32.5 million small businesses in the United States; Small businesses represent more than 99 percent of companies with paid employees and are responsible for 60 percent of net new jobs created since 1995,

and

Whereas small businesses employ nearly 47% of employees in the private sector in our country, and contribute positively to our local community, by supplying jobs and generating tax revenue

and

Whereas it is estimated that for every dollar spent at small retailers, 68 cents stays in the community

and

Whereas along with advocacy groups and public and private organizations across the country, which have endorsed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday, today the leadership and residents of Ambler Borough are committed to celebrate and support our local small businesses that create jobs, boost our economy, and preserve our communities,

and

Whereas, beginning on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, there will be no ticketing at borough meters and kiosks,

Now therefore, Ambler Mayor Jeanne Sorg, would hereby proclaim that Nov. 30, 2024, as Small Business Saturday.”

Ambler Main Street has also earmarked the day for special recognition of something the organization strives to promote the other 364 days, too: Ambler’s small businesses.

“It is a day dedicated to helping support the small businesses,” said the nonprofit’s website. “Go out and Shop Small at your favorite small Ambler businesses and be a part of helping our community prosper. Let’s make this the most successful Small Business Saturday yet!”

“There’s free parking in town all day long,” said the Event page. “So stroll down to ‘Thrillist’s’ top small town in Pennsylvania and shop ‘til you drop, and support the heartbeat of our community – small businesses.”
