It is always great to get out and try new things, and the Montgomery County Senior Adult Activity Centers provide plenty of opportunities for that. Take this winter’s workshops, for example.
Thanks to the Art Center at Ambler, the SAAC is able to offer a wide variety of courses in a multitude of mediums. Seniors of all experience levels can find interesting and educational activities to both learn more and socialize with peers.
One of this fall’s offerings will be a Jewelry Making Workshop. Slated for Tuesday, Dec. 3 from noon to 2:30 p.m., this session will bring each participant an opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind piece. Instructor Bonnie Simon will lead the workshop, during which guests will have the choice of making a pair of earrings, a necklace, or a bracelet utilizing an assortment of beautiful beads and wire.
The cost is $50 per person. A material fee is not included and can vary based on the student’s selections. Space for the workshop is limited, and a reservation is necessary to take part in the fun.
Simon, the workshop’s instructor, is a retired special education teacher who also spends her time as an abstract painter and jewelry maker. She loves making pieces out of a variety of Czech beads. Collecting them for over 50 years now, Simon has amassed quite a variety of beads with which she enjoys making unique jewelry pieces.
Featured in many area stores, art shows, and exhibits, Simon currently has pieces at the Mount Airy Art Garage. Registration for the Jewelry Workshop can be done online here. To review other offerings this season, click here.
