  • Things To Do

It isn’t easy finding time for a night out together. It is somehow even harder to schedule one as parents. Finding a babysitter you can trust. Coordinating your busy schedules. Making a reservation. There’s so much to it.

But the Wissahickon High School is hoping to help you squeeze in that date night very soon.

The WHS “Mini-Thon” Committee is hosting a Kids’ Night Out on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. Not only is it a great way for the organization to earn funds for its very important mission of “conquering childhood cancer,” but district parents can also utilize the evening for a chance at a break themselves.

Wissahickon School District Board President Amy Ginsburg said she heard about the unique opportunity while checking out a recent high school football game.

“Spread the word to elementary-age families,” she said during the board’s Sept. 30 work session. “Parents can bring their children to here at the high school. You can drop you kids off for arts, crafts, facepainting, and put them in costume.”

Ginsburg said the event will feature prizes for a Halloween Costume Competition, as well as a musical haunted house, sports, games, and various activities. WHS students will be providing the supervision and conducting the activities for those in grades Kindergarten through fifth.
The cost is just $30 per child, which includes the full four hours of fun, not to mention dinner for each child.

“Parents can have a night out, and you can leave you kids there,” said Ginsburg. “It sounded like a really unique fundraiser, and parents can enjoy an evening out.”

Registration for the event is required prior to entry. A form is available by scanning the attached QR code here.

All information such as the parents’ names, phone numbers, and emergency contacts will be entered upon registration. Dinner is provided for the children during the event. Payment is accepted at the door, via check or cash, or parents can utilize the Venmo payment option @Wissminithon25.
