They may wake you, noisily making their presence known. They may even ruin you freshly waxed car wash. But they’re also a beautiful part of our natural surroundings, and Lower Gwynedd Township works hard to be sure they stick around.

Birds of all kinds are a beautiful and helpful part of nature. As a “Bird Town Pennsylvania” community, the township partners with the conservation organization to “create a healthier, more sustainable environment for birds, wildlife, and people.”

Lower Gwynedd is part of the Montgomery County Bird Town Clutch, which also aims to unite efforts of Bird Town communities to “conduct and promote outreach activities” as a united force. Together, the organizations partner to create events like walks, lectures and workshops, movie nights, and tie-in programs that are bird-friendly, including an annual tree giveaway.

To that end, the upcoming Bird Walks have been scheduled in and around the community. All walks are free, and largely geared toward beginner birders, but are also open to the more experienced, too. From those that simply enjoy a bird watch, to talented photographers, all walks of life are invited to attend.

The following dates will be held:

During the walks, common bird types such as the Northern Cardinal, the blue jay, Carolina wren, tufted titmouse, American robin, Northern Flicker, red-bellied woodpecker, and the white-tailed sparrow are likely to be viewed.
