Thankfully, the county has a plan in place and will utilize the national Drug Take-Back Day to help all area residents dispose of unsafe medicines.
As previously reported in WissNow.com, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Springfield Township Police Chief Michael E. Pitkow, the president of the Police Chiefs Association of Montgomery County, announced that the fall Drug Take-Back Day will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on this Saturday, Oct. 26, at numerous locations across Montgomery County.
All county residents are encouraged to clear their homes of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications. Since the Drug Take Back program began in 2010, more than 126,000 pounds of medicines have been collected and safely disposed of.
Typically, about 40-45 police departments serve as drop-off sites around the county for Drug Take Back Day, including several grocery store locations staffed by police officers. If you are curious where you can visit on Saturday, these local options are available:
All of the locations will have police stationed at the drop-off during the four-hour event. Guests can return prescription and over-the-counter tablets, capsules, inhalers, creams, ointments, nasal sprays, pet medication, and vapes (with battery removed). The sites cannot accept needles, liquid medications, or IV/injectable solutions.
While this unique day is a celebrated, national event to remind residents to clear out expired or unused drugs. However, the aforementioned locations offer year-round, permanent boxes and can accept the permitted items any time.
