One long-time pastor who got his start in Penllyn is nearing his retirement date after serving his communities for 47 years.
The Rev. William McKinley Freeman, most recently of the Union Baptist Church of Orange, N.J., according to the the Essex News Daily, is retiring after nearly a half century of work in the church. Starting his service in 1977, the man is the fifth and longest serving pastor the UBC has ever had.
Originally from Colerain, N.C., Freeman has four sons. He served his first pastorate at Shiloh Baptist Church in Newport, R.I., then moving to Pennsylvania to become the pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Penllyn before heading to the UBC, where he remained over the past four decades.
