Officials in Montgomery County are alerting residents of a text message scam that falsely notifies residents of a problem with their voter registration and urges them to click unsecure links or provide sensitive information.

The scam text message claims to originate from “Allvote.com,” an unverified, unsecure website that aims to capture personal, sensitive information from voters in an attempt to exploit them later on. The scam claims individuals are not registered to vote. Residents can check their voter registration status online at the PA Department of State website. Do not give personal, sensitive information to an untrusted, unknown source.

All communications from Montgomery County regarding voting information will be officially and clearly marked and easily identifiable. If you ever have a question about the legitimacy of a communication you’ve received from the County in relation to the election or voting, please reach out to Voter Services at montcovotes@montgomerycountypa.gov or 610-278-3280.

We also encourage voters to visit the Attorney General’s website to learn more about protecting themselves and others from similar scams.

"We are asking residents to stay vigilant and be careful with their personal information,” said Jamila H. Winder, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “It is an unfortunate reality that these bad actors know how important voting is to Montgomery County residents and will use that to exploit them. We need everyone to be aware and protect their personal data."

“The recent phishing scam targeting voters in Montgomery County is another desperate attempt to discourage participation and turnout in the upcoming election,” said Neil Makhija, Montgomery County commissioner and chair of the Board of Elections. “Our team is hyper-focused on doing everything we can to make voting easier and more accessible for eligible residents. Weak phishing scams will not deter our progress.”

“Residents should never share personal information with an unknown source,” said Tom DiBello, Montgomery County commissioner. "If you don’t know who’s on the receiving end, don’t share sensitive information.”
