  • Things To Do

Even with the unofficial end of summer now behind us, Mother Nature still thinks it is the peak of summer! Thankfully, there are still plenty of fun and exciting events in and around our Wissahickon neighborhoods! Get out and enjoy these upcoming happenings dating from Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Sunday, Sept. 8 with This Week Now.

If you didn’t quite get to unwind as intended over Labor Day Weekend, perhaps you are in need of some Mindful Meditation. Offered at the Wissahickon Valley Public Library, starting at 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, the library’s Blue Bell location at 650 Skippack Pike, offers a course to “decrease stress, increase focus, and be present in the moment.” The course is held in the Community Room each Tuesday, with Beth Kedra, who guides the meditation. For more information, email bethked28@gmail.com.

On Thursday, Sept. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m., the Wissahickon High School will host Back to School Night. Parents will be invited to learn more about their student’s classes, curriculum, activities, assignments and expectations for the upcoming school year. Both in-person and virtual activities are available to provide parents with the opportunity to attend in any way that fits their personal schedule. Video presentations will be offered the day after live sessions.

Ambler Borough will truly be “going to the dogs” on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as the Dogs Days in Ambler will be hosted rain or shine. The event will begin with registration at Gypsy Blu, located at 34 E. Butler Ave., in Ambler. A doggie parade and block party will proceed on Ridge Avenue. There will be a costume contest, prizes, and dog-focused vendors for the event promoted by Ambler Main Street. For more information, email Gene McGonagle at gene@amblerflowershop.com or Liz Kunzier at liz@amblermainstreet.org.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Wings ‘N Wheels annual event will be held at Blue Bell’s Wings Field, 1501 Narcissa Road. The event will feature antique cars and planes on display, a kids’ activity corner with bounce houses, scenic flights, a “wing-off” competition, and food trucks! All proceeds will benefit the Angel Flight East, a nonprofit which provides free flights for medical patients in need of treatment far from home. For more information, call 215-358-1900 or visit https://angelflighteast.org/news-events/wings-n-wheels.html.

If you’ve ever wondered how your car could really handle, how to control your vehicle, or how to study proper reactions to common traffic situations, the TireRack.com Street Survival Course will be offered on Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Montgomery County Community College Blue Bell campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration for the course, which costs $125 per person, is available online here. For more information, reach Bill Wade at 864-438-2060.
