Do you have a refined palate when it comes to the arts? Are you invested in bringing cultural aspects to your local community? If so, the Whitpain Township Board of Supervisors is looking for you!

As previously reported on Wissahickon Now, the supervisors recently approved the official creation of the Arts and Culture Commission. And now, the township’s leaders are seeking to fill those seats.

“The township is now accepting applications from residents who are interested in serving on the newly formed Arts and Culture Commission,” said a post in the Whitpain Wire, the community newsletter for the Whitpain area. “The commission was created to organize and promote initiatives in the township to celebrate our rich artistic and cultural experiences to Whitpain residents.”

Members of the commission must be residents of the township. They will be appointed by the supervisors. In total, there will be five vacancies with overlapping, three-year terms. In its first year, the commission will include one member appointed to a one-year term, two with two-year terms, and two with three-year terms.

“We have been talking about this on for a year,” said Supervisor and Vicechair Kimberly Koch of the Whitpain Township Board. “I am so excited to tap into the lofty resources here in Whitpain Township.”

Once named to the organization, members of the Arts and Culture Commission will be expected to “serve as an artistic, cultural, and/or creative resource to the Board of Supervisors and the township’s other boards, committees, and commissions.”

As such, the commission will be asked to develop relationships with area organizations, governmental agencies, and community groups in and around Whitpain. They will be asked to additionally advise the supervisors on such matters of arts or culture, to keep robust programming open to area residents.

The duties also include helping supervisors to “conceive, plan, and execute artistic and/or cultural programming for the community,” according to the creating ordinance.

Those that wish to apply for the commission are asked to send a resume or CV by email to supervisors@whitpaintownship.org. For more information, reach the township staff by phone at 610-277-2400 or stop by the administrative building at 960 Wentz Road.
