Authorities have not confirmed the issue, but noted all students and staff are safe.
Students at Wissahickon High School were released early on Thursday as reports of an investigation on its grounds were announced.
Authorities said that students were safe but would be dismissed at 1:15 p.m. this afternoon.
“In order to allow the police to complete the investigation of the security situation at WHS in an orderly fashion, the district is scheduling an early dismissal for all high school students at 1:15 p.m. today,” read a statement sent to parents. “Please be assured that all students and staff are safe.”
No other schools in the Wissahickon School District were dismissed early.
“There are no security concerns at any other building, and dismissals at all other schools will take place as they normally do at normal times,” said the district’s statement to parents.
Students at the high school were released one hallway at a time, and parents were instructed to pick students up at that time, but no earlier.
Staff at the high school were asked to remain on the campus, as there would be a faculty meeting in the building.
A text sent to all parents on the school’s alert system were sent the following message at 11:52 a.m.:
“Wiss Nation: The police are currently investigating a security situation at WHS. Nothing has happened, and all students and staff are safe,” it said. “More info to follow.”
The emailed statement was sent out after that text message.
While speculation online is guessing widely at the reasons behind the issue, the district has not confirmed the incident’s details. Wissahickon Now will confirm the information with authorities and release it as soon as it is made available.
