A Tuesday evening vehicle accident has Fort Washington’s first responders assisting those involved along the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Early reports said that calls came into Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch around 8:40 p.m. of a two-vehicle accident along the Pennsylvania Turnpike/Interstate 276 Eastbound at the ramp for Route 309 in Upper Dublin Township Tuesday night.
According to witnesses at the scene, one black SUV with heavy front-end damage is off the roadway, and its airbags have deployed and its engine is smoking. A tow truck is removing the SUV from the scene.
Another vehicle is more than 50 feet off of the roadway, appearing to have traveled through a guardrail, down an embankment, and it came to rest in the brush and trees.
Both involved vehicles are being towed from the scene. Traffic is backed up and slow in the area, as three travel lanes have been reduced to two.
Responding to scene were Fort Washington Fire Company and Community Ambulance Association of Ambler, as well as Pennsylvania State Police.
The condition of those involved is unknown at this time. Drivers are asked to avoid the area or use caution if travel is necessary in this vicinity.
