One Upper Dublin man will spend a minimum of 18 years in prison as a judge on Wednesday sentenced him in a gun trafficking scheme.
Tamir Hartsock, 25, of the 300 block of Logan Avenue, in Upper Dublin, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 18 to 36 years in a state correctional facility for charges related to gun trafficking incidents that took place between August of 2020 and May of 2023, said a report by Carl Hessler Jr., in The Mercury.
Hartsock had a nonjury trial that convicted him for being “the straw purchaser,” with his first purchase stemming from a buy on his 21st birthday, Hessler said. The charges involved 16 firearms, only six of which have been recovered.
A straw purchase, by law, occurs when a person with a clean background purchases a firearm for another in order to conceal the true ownership of a gun. Some of Hartsock’s purchase were recovered by minors, while others were prohibited by law to possess a firearm for reasons besides age.
