Emergency responders are tending to an accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Extension, Interstate 476, for the reports of multiple injuries.

Calls came into Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch around 5:16 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the vicinity of the Worcester and Whitpain townships’ borders of the extension, near the ramps for Interstate 276.

Early reports of a helicopter landing on the highway have caused traffic to be stopped in the area. PA511.com noted that both north- and southbound traffic in between the Lansdale and Mid-County exits, near mile post 25.3, are blocked at this time in preparation for the landing.

Reports of later calls from rescue workers around 5:31 p.m. said that head trauma sustained in the accident required immediate medical attention. Reports at the scene noted a motorcycle that is in the right lanes, while a driver is in the left lanes.

Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company are reporting to the scene, along with the Pennsylvania State Police, Upper Gwynedd Township Fire, Centre Square Fire Company, Freedom Valley Medical Rescue, and VMSC Emergency Medical Services. The JeffStat 2 helicopter is currently on the highway.

Cetronia Ambulance assisted at the scene, as they were headed to Philadelphia on a patient transfer, according to authorities.

Traffic is stopped along 276 in the vicinity, as well as both directions of 476 at this time. Drivers are advised to avoid the area. All lanes are closed in all directions at the two interstates' meeting place.
