Students in the band programs of the Wissahickon School District had an educational clinic with the pros, too!
It isn't every day that you're able to hear the musical stylings of professional musicians. And, when you are a youngster just starting out on your own instrumental journey, it is even more eye- ... er? ... ear-opening of an experience.
As previewed by Wissahickon Now, the students in both the high and middle school band programs of the Wissahickon School District were able to learn first-hand how a hobby of playing can turn into a lifetime passion. The Dallas Brass not only came to town for a concert open to the community, but the professional band also spent time with students in an educational clinic. Students were able to learn from and ask questions directly to its members.
As if that hands-on lesson wasn't enough, the band then also prepared alongside the students, hosting a concert not only of their own creation, but with the musical guests of both bands, as well! Students were invited to play along with the pros, on stage, rubbing elbows with some of the country's best.
Margaret Oswald, the high school's music director, told WissNow.com that she was sure the interaction would teach her students quite a bit.
“I know they will walk away with techniques that we can immediately use in rehearsals,” she said ahead of the clinic. “Students will also get to hear fantastic music and see an incredible performance.”
