While there are always great Things to Do in and around our Wissahickon communities, today begins a very busy weekend for Whitpain Township. Are you ready for the big events?
Kicking off the weekend of fun, the township will begin with the Big Rig Roundup. Slated for Friday, Sept. 27, the Roundup includes vehicles like fire trucks, construction vehicles, tractors, and more exciting toys for children to explore up close and personally. Imagine your tot’s face as he sees his everyday favorite Tonka Trucks come to life with true-to-size equipment!
The Roundup will be held on the Montgomery County Community College grounds, at the Morris Road parking lot. The event is completely free for all visitors and will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
In order to have an inclusive event, the township’s parks and recreation team will also host a “Minimal Noise” hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. During that first hour, the hosts are requesting all participants keep sounds to a low volume, with no horns or sirens. Children will be asked not to honk horns, too, as they crawl upon and explore the massive pieces of equipment.
The time is set aside to allow for those that are overwhelmed by the environment or large, public gatherings, to enjoy some fun playtime alongside their peers without the fear of alarming sounds.
In addition to an inclusive space, the event will include the Lansdale-based Philly Waffle Cabin, known for their Belgian sugar waffles, will be selling delicious concessions during the evening’s festivities.
Friday’s Big Rig Roundup is made possible thanks to the support of its sponsor, Transnet. All ages are welcome to attend, and there is no cost for any of the Big Rig fun (only additional foods or beverages if desired are available for purchase).
But the excitement does not stop after Friday’s family fun. The very next day, Whitpain Township will keep the good times coming with its annual Community Festival. On Saturday, Sept. 28, the festival will be held in the same space, on the MCCC grounds near the Morris Road parking lot.
The festival will begin at noon with vendors, a health expo, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, pony rides, and community resources on hand. The live music will begin at 2:30 p.m., and continue until the fireworks at 8:15 p.m.
Another event that is free to the public, and open to all ages, will include fun games, shopping, and foods. Musical performances will be held in the lot, so guests are asked to bring chairs as there is not a grassy space for blankets.
Cash or card may be required for the purchases at some food trucks, games, and tickets. Cash is preferred by most vendors available for shopping. All township-sponsored functions are no cost (including music, games, rides).
From noon to 4 p.m., all vendors, health expo, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, pony rides, hayrides, children’s games, rock wall, and food trucks will remain open. The Beer Garden, for those 21 and over, will open from 2 to 8 p.m. Music will be provided throughout the grounds from 2:30 to 8 p.m., including presentations from the Fort Washington School of Rock, the Montco Student Band, Yer So Dad, and Love Seed Momma Jump.
The night will conclude with fireworks, planned for around 8:15 p.m.
The event on Saturday is made possible thanks to the sponsors, including:
