The much-anticipated construction at Mermaid Park in Blue Bell has commenced.
Whitpain Township officials recently announced that construction of the new playground, which has been years in the making, located at 1002 Jolly Road, Blue Bell, is set to start. Construction crews will be building three new “pods,” each offering a variety of sensory, physical and educational experiences for users.
“It will likely be an eight-month project from the time construction gets started,” said David Mrochko, assistant manager of Whitpain Township. “As always, construction projects are weather dependent, so hopefully we will have favorable conditions this year.”
The first phase of construction involves building the three new pod.
“Each pod has its own unique nature theme,” Mrochko said.
One pod is based on animals and insects, another on forests and the final one has the theme of earth.
