Two men face aggravated assault charges after a stabbing incident turned into a physical altercation in the parking lot of a daycare during morning drop-off hours, according to police.

Last week, Access Network reported a stabbing incident in the parking lot of Lightbridge Academy, 440 Virginia Drive, Fort Washington. According to police, the two men involved in the dispute have been identified as Joshua Stephen Ellis, 26, of Landsdale, and Jared Colin Singletary, 25, of Croydon.

On Thursday, April 3 at 9:12 a.m., the Upper Dublin Police Department responded to Lightbridge Academy for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, police found Singletary exiting the driver’s seat of his Audi A4 with stab wounds to his right arm and his right torso. The wound to his torso was in the area of his ribs and had two puncture marks consistent with the lines of scissors, according to police. Singletary told police that Ellis stabbed him with scissors. Ellis was located on the scene and detained by police.

Police found blood on the outside of Singletary's vehicle, the driver’s seat, passenger seat, and center console. There was a small pair of scissors found on the passenger side floorboard, according to police.

Two witnesses at the scene told police that Singletary and Ellis became involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot following the stabbing. Moments later, Ellis and one of the witnesses, his girlfriend, walked away from the altercation and sat down in the grass of Lightbridge Academy. According to police reports, Ellis' girlfriend said Singletary then got back in his vehicle and tried to run her and Ellis over with his car.

Ellis and his girlfriend both had to jump on top of a nearby vehicle to avoid being struck by the Singletary’s vehicle, according to police. An independent witness at the scene corroborated Ellis’ girlfriend’s account of the incident.

Singletary was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital.

According to police, the parking lot of the daycare was filled with parents and children during drop-off hours when the incident occurred.

Ellis is charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault and Singletary is charged with one felony count of aggravated assault.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
