Gwynedd Crossing Shopping Center in Montgomery Township has been evacuated following an explosion of an electrical transformer or generator, possibly related to a gas leak, Saturday morning behind the Fine Wine & Good Spirits and Aldi.

At around 11:08 a.m., Montgomery County emergency dispatch received a report of a buiding fire and an odor of a gas leak inside and outside the liquor store at 1210 N. Bethlehem Pike, but then an explosion of a transformer box behind the store rocked the buildings, with witnesses reporting the shopping center shook and felt like the building was struck by lightning.

There are no reported injuries.

Fire Department of Montgomery Township, Montgomery Township Police, Colmar Fire, Hilltown Fire Rescue (Bucks), Upper Gwynedd Fire, Ft. Washington Fire Co., Wissahickon Fire, and Fairmount Fire Co. of Lansdale are on scene.
