Area residents and visitors can catch a glimpse of legendary President Abraham Lincoln next weekend at Pennypacker Mills.

Local historian and actor Bob Gleason will bring history to life by portraying the 16th president at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 as part of a “porch performance” at 5 Haldeman Road in Perkiomen Township.

Sponsored by the Friends of Pennypacker Mills, organizers recommend attendees bring a blanket or chair to the free event where people of all ages are welcome to attend. A $2 donation is suggested, but not required. Tours will also take place throughout the day and the last tour will start at 3 p.m.

The performance will showcase Lincoln’s early struggles living in poverty in New Salem, Illinois where he worked as a rail splitter while studying law and other topics. He eventually ascended from that of a lawyer to his foray into politics, eventually rising to assume the presidency.

“Gleason will expand upon how he raised himself up from his humble beginnings to become the man who passed the emancipation proclamation, united a splintered nation, and reaffirmed the nation’s dedication to freedom, democracy and equality at Gettysburg,” a Montgomery County spokesperson said.

Those with questions or interested in learning more about the upcoming event should contact Museum Educator Laura Foose at 610-287-9349 or Laura.Foose@montgomerycountypa.gov.
