Fun in the sun is being cut short in Upper Dublin Township.
According to the Upper Dublin Parks and Recreation Department, staffing shortages have created a challenge to keep the Upper Dublin Community Pool open, which usually remains open to the public until Labor Day.
"Unfortunately, that won’t be possible this year," the Upper Dublin Parks and Recreation Department wrote in a statement. "Due to significant staffing shortages, our last confirmed day of operation will be Sunday, August 17.
Nearly all of the seasonal staff are college-aged students and will be returning to school, leaving the public pool without the personnel necessary to safely open the facility.
"This was not an easy decision," UD's Park and Rec Department added.
According to the Parks & Recreation Department, it thoroughly explored all available options to extend weekend operations, but was ultimately unable to secure the staffing required to do so in a safe and sustainable manner.
Residents should also be aware that, while Aug. 17 is currently planned as the final day of operation, there remains a possibility that the pool may need to close earlier that weekend or operate with reduced hours.
"Upper Dublin Township understands how disappointing this news may be and sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience," the Department wrote. "Planning is already underway to improve staffing sustainability for the 2026 season."
