Residents and commuters through Upper Dublin Township and Abington areas will soon experience a temporary, but important, disruption along Fitzwatertown Road.

Starting this week, Fitzwatertown Road between Susquehanna Road and the Abington Wastewater Treatment Plant will be closed to through traffic for approximately two weeks, as PennDOT initiates a significant infrastructure improvement project.

According to the announcement, PennDOT crews will be replacing roughly 200 feet of storm drain piping beneath the roadway. This effort is part of a larger plan to upgrade aging infrastructure, improve stormwater drainage, and reduce the risk of future flooding in the area. The work, and closures, are scheduled to take place on weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

While the closure is expected to impact daily travel for many residents, emergency vehicles will still be permitted to pass through the construction zone, though minor delays may occur. Local officials have advised that detour routes will be clearly marked and are encouraging drivers to plan alternate travel paths during the closure hours.

Though such projects can pose temporary inconveniences, the long-term benefits of improved infrastructure will be worth it. The new drainage system is expected to strengthen the area’s ability to handle severe weather, protect road conditions, and support overall community safety.

Local authorities have expressed their gratitude for the public’s patience and cooperation during this time, assuring residents that crews will work efficiently to complete the project on schedule.

As with any roadwork project, a little planning can go a long way. Residents are advised to allow extra travel time, remain alert near the work zone, and stay informed as the improvements progress.
