Pennypacker Mills is marking four decades of serving the public. This year, the historic site celebrates its 40th anniversary with the launch of a new year-long exhibit and invites the public to participate in themed events, including a special Valentine’s craft workshop for kids in February.
Pennypacker Mills is an immersive Colonial Revival mansion that offers visitors a unique glimpse into the past. On May 31, 1985, Montgomery County dedicated Pennypacker Mills as a historic site. In the 40 years since, the site has been open to the public for tours, events, programs, and more.
Tours of Pennypacker Mills, and all the programs listed below, are free, although there is a suggested donation of $2 per person.
Year-Long Special Exhibit
From Feb. 1 through the end of the year, a special exhibit, “Pennypacker Mills Through the Ages,” will explore the changes that each owner made to the property, along with the county’s restoration work for its opening in 1985. Featuring photos and artifacts from several of the owners, the exhibit explores the restoration of Pennypacker Mills through artifacts, items, and timelines. The exhibit gallery is located on the second floor of the mansion and is included on all free tours.
Valentine Craft Workshop for Kids
On Saturday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., families with grade school children are encouraged to drop by the classroom building at Pennypacker Mills for a free Valentine craft workshop. This drop-in workshop will provide materials and instructions for children to make several Valentine crafts at their own pace.
Pre-registration is preferred. Call 610-287-9349 to pre-register.
Gallery Talk
Visit Pennypacker Mills on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. for an in-depth talk on the new exhibit, “Pennypacker Mills through the Ages.” The talk will explore the history and owners of Pennypacker Mills as well as Montgomery County’s acquisition and restoration.
The Gallery Talk will be located on the second floor of the Pennypacker Mills mansion.
Located at 5 Haldeman Road in Schwenksville, Pennypacker Mills is operated by Montgomery County’s Division of Parks, Trails and Historic Sites. The site is open year-round for free guided tours, seasonal events, craft workshops, special presentations, education programs, and changing exhibits.
