The owner of Sweet Annie’s Candy Shoppe announced that the store will officially close its doors on March 9.
Owner Annie Maloney opened the store in July 2020, continuing a family tradition that began in the 1920s with her great aunt Margaret's candy store in South Philadelphia.
“It is with mixed emotions that we announce the decision to close our beloved candy shoppe," the post said. "After much thought and consideration, Sunday, March 9th will be our last day of business, Maloney wrote in a social media post.
“This decision was not made lightly,” she added. “Our candy shoppe has been a part of this community for five fun-filled years, and we are incredibly grateful for the support, love, and sweet memories we’ve shared with all of you.”
Maloney sited a lack of foot traffic and parking issues as the primary reason for closing.
“Ambler has a tremendous amount of potential and is a wonderful town, but is not without its challenges,” she continued. “There are so many great small-business owners and loyal patrons.
“In the end, I thank you all for being a part of our Sweet Annie’s family,” she concluded. “Your support has meant the world to us, and we will cherish these memories forever. Feel free to stop in for one last chance to indulge in your favorite candies and gifts.”
Many residents flocked to the social media posting to express their disappointment in the news.
“thank you for being such a strong part of the community here, we will always remember the fun we had visiting your shop,” one user said.
“Thank you for the memories and the joy you brought to our children each time they visited! We will miss this Ambler staple,” another said.
